Testing Quantum Electrodynamics with Exotic Atoms

چکیده
Precision study of few-electron, high-$Z$ ions is a privileged field for probing high-field, bound-state quantum electrodynamics (BSQED). However, the accuracy such tests plagued by nuclear uncertainties, which are often larger than BSQED effects under investigation. We propose an alternative method with exotic atoms and show that transitions may be found between circular Rydberg states where contributions vanishing while remain large. When probed newly available sensing detectors, these systems offer gains in sensitivity 1 to 2 orders magnitude, mean electric largely exceeds Schwinger limit.

Simple Atoms, Quantum Electrodynamics and Fundamental Constants
This review is devoted to precision physics of simple atoms. The atoms can essentially be described in the framework of quantum electrodynamics (QED), however, the energy levels are also affected by the effects of the strong interaction due to the nuclear structure. We pay special attention to QED tests based on studies of simple atoms and consider the influence of nuclear structure on energy l...
متن کاملQuantum Electrodynamics and Exotic Atomic Phenomena of High
We review the physics of the exotic atomic phenomena, especially positron autoionization, which can occur if the charge of the nucleus is increased beyond the critical value Z 170. The adiabatic collision of two heavy ions can be used to study experimentally the problem of the Dirac electron in a Coulomb field beyond the critical value where pair production occurs. Various approaches to this phe...
متن کاملExotic atoms
In this paper I review a number of recent results in the field of exotic atoms. Recent experiments or ongoing experiments with muonic, pionic and antiprotonic hydrogen, as well as recent measurement of the pion mass are described. These experiments provide information about nucleon-pion or nucleonantinucleon interaction as well as information on the proton structure (charge or magnetic moment d...
متن کاملCavity Quantum Electrodynamics of Continuously Monitored Bose-Condensed Atoms
We study cavity quantum electrodynamics of Bose-condensed atoms that are subjected to continuous monitoring of the light leaking out of the cavity. Due to a given detection record of each stochastic realization, individual runs spontaneously break the symmetry of the spatial profile of the atom cloud and this symmetry can be restored by considering ensemble averages over many realizations. We s...
